When the Turner family returned to Fairmont on December 6, 2007 not only did they find a brand new home built specifically for them, but they also came home to an incredibly supportive and generous community.
The home itself was built by Bridgeport, West Virginia construction firm Huffman Corporation, its building partners, the City of Fairmont and hundreds of volunteers in a little less than 106 hours. The day after the Turner's got to see their new home local businesses and community members announced even further donations to the deserving Fairmont family.
Below is a list of just some of the donations given to the Turners and to the project.
An anonymous donor contributed nearly $4,000 to pay off the Turner's existing home loan.
For Angie Turner, Fairmont State University waived her tuition costs for two semesters and offered free books for the rest of her academic career, as well as free fitness center memberships and tickets to any athletic event for the whole family.
Also from Fairmont State University, a culinary arts instructor presented Layton Turner, an aspiring cook, with private lessons in his kitchen or hers and an apron bearing the Falcons' mascot.
The Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort located in Weirton, West Virginia contributed $3,500 to the project and family.
